Upon completion of this assignment, the student will be able to interview a service provider who works with young children with disabilities and write a reflection summary based on the experience.

Assignment

The student will interview a service provider who works with young children with disabilities. This could be an occupational, physical, or speech therapist, a resource room teacher in an elementary school, a Case Manager for CDS, a BCBA, a psychologist, or a behavior specialist.

When setting up the interview:

Contact the provider, introduce yourself as a student at KVCC in this course, etc., and set up a time to meet that is convenient for both of you.

Day of interview:
• Call to confirm the interview (do a few days prior)
• Dress appropriately and bring student ID
• Arrive on time and bring paper, pen, list of questions—be sure to have a minimum of 10 questions
• Be respectful of the provider's available time and please be sure to thank the provider at the conclusion of the interview
• Respect confidentiality Submit a two-three page paper summarizing the interview, which must be done in person.

Include in the paper:
• Name and occupation of the direct service provider/Date of interview
• Experience of provider and target age group
• 10 questions asked and answered in paper
• Reflective summary/impressions/comments (a minimum of two paragraphs summarizing your thoughts and impressions)
